Prosper is moving forward on work to expand Legacy Drive.

During its regular meeting on Jan. 23, the Prosper Town Council approved awarding construction services for a four-lane project on Legacy Drive between First Street and Prairie Drive.

Prosper Engineering Director Hulon Webb said the project would entail constructing four lanes of Legacy Drive from First Street down to just north of Scarlet Drive and then extending those to the Priarie Drive intersection. The project will essentially result in four lanes of roadway from First Street to US 380, Webb said.

“Having this additional punch through from First Street down to 380 is going to be key with everything growing out there on the west side," he said.

Webb said the town received four bid proposals on Dec. 15. Project cost estimates ranged from $9.1 million to $10.7 million, and construction time estimates ranged from 205 days to 395 days. The project budget is $10 million.

The award was given to Zachry Construction Corporation for about $9.1 million with a construction time span of 243 days.
In response to a question from the council, Webb said he believed that the project was originally slated for 2027.

“I just know that this was one we accelerated, so I just want our citizens to know that we are moving things forward quicker than we originally planned and trying to make their life easier,” Councilwoman Amy Bartley said. “Thank you, staff, for doing that.”
The agreement was approved unanimously.
